Obituary

With profound love, gratitude, and heartfelt sorrow, we celebrate the life of Anthony Michael Fleming, who peacefully entered eternal rest on Saturday, June 27, 2026, at the age of 61.

Anthony was born on March 28, 1965, to Laura D. Fleming and Lindsey Fleming Sr. He was raised in Chicago Heights, Illinois, where he developed the values that would guide his life—faith, integrity, humility, and service to others. He was baptized and raised in the Catholic faith as a member of St. Agnes Church, where he learned the importance of compassion, family, and community.

Anthony attended Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, Illinois, where he participated in Army ROTC, demonstrating his commitment to leadership, discipline, and service. During his collegiate years, he embraced another lifelong commitment when he became a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., the first intercollegiate fraternity established for African American men. Initiated into the Epsilon Phi Chapter in the Spring of 1986, Anthony formed friendships and bonds of brotherhood that remained an important part of his life for four decades.

Following college, Anthony dedicated more than 20 years of distinguished public service as a Youth Officer with the State of Illinois. Throughout his career, he served with professionalism, integrity, fairness, and compassion. His colleagues respected him for his calm demeanor, dependability, and unwavering commitment to maintaining the safety and security of the community. After more than two decades of faithful service, he retired with honor, leaving behind a legacy of dedication and excellence.

Away from work, Anthony enjoyed life’s simple pleasures. He loved fishing, watching and playing football, and spending quality time with family and friends. Some of his most cherished moments were those shared with his fraternity line brothers from Alpha Phi Alpha—Michael, Larry, and the cherished memories of Scott and William, who preceded him in death. Their lifelong friendship embodied the ideals of brotherhood, scholarship, and service that Anthony held close to his heart.

Anthony possessed a warm smile that could brighten any room and a quiet, gentle spirit that made everyone feel welcome. He was thoughtful, dependable, and always willing to lend a helping hand or offer words of encouragement. His kindness, humility, and genuine concern for others earned him the love and respect of everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

Although Anthony was divorced and had no children, he found tremendous joy in the love of his family and the lifelong friendships he cultivated. He was a devoted son, brother, uncle, cousin, fraternity brother, and friend whose presence enriched the lives of many.

Anthony was preceded in death by his beloved father, Lindsey Fleming Sr., his brother, Joseph Davis-Fleming, and his fraternity brothers Scott and William.

He leaves to cherish his memory his loving mother, Laura D. Fleming; his devoted sister, Laura E. Fleming; his brothers, Lindsey Fleming Jr. and Norman Fleming; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, lifelong friends, fraternity brothers of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., and former colleagues whose lives were forever enriched by his friendship.

While our hearts are saddened by Anthony’s passing, we celebrate a life that exemplified faith, integrity, brotherhood, and public service. His legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched, the friendships he nurtured, and the love he shared so freely.

Though he has departed from our sight, he will never depart from our hearts.
