Michael Ervin Burnett
was born October 22, 1981, in Chicago Heights, Illinois to his parents, Michael and Octavia Burnett. He was the first of two children born to this union. He was known by his family and friends as Ervin (Cousin Smiley). He departed this life on April 15, 2023. At the age of 9 years old, Ervin accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior at Holy Ghost Deliverance Center (COGIC) in Chicago Heights, Illinois.
As an adult, he later became a member and was baptized at the Powerhouse Chicago. Ervin graduated from Rich South High School where he participated in football, track, and field. After graduating from high school, he attended Parkland College in Champaign, Illinois. Most recently he was employed at Vehi-Ship as a supervisor. Ervin was a brilliant young man. He had a contagious smile that always lit up the room. He enjoyed sports, traveling, taking family vacations, and spending quality time with his family with whom he loved dearly.
Ervin was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Sammie Ervin & Jessie Lee Burnett, and maternal grandparents Dottie Ruth & Thris Lindsey. Michael leaves to cherish his memory: his former wife Nakiah “Nikki” Burnett; precious daughters, Aniya Renee Burnett, Chloe Monroe Burnett, and Caydence Micah Burnett; one son, Michael James McKnight Burnett; supportive parents, Michael and Octavia Burnett, one sister, Kanisha (Cory) Brookins; one niece, Zoey Renee Brookins; four uncles, three aunts, one great uncle, one great aunt, a special cousin, Denise Wilson, who gave him the nickname “Cousin Smiley”, and a host of cousins, relatives, and friends
