Obituary

Mildred Hamilton,

the youngest of 12 children, was born on September 19, 1933, to William & Bertha Bibbs-Maynie. Mildred was raised in the Morgan Park community, and she was proud of her heritage, being a descendant of one of the largest pioneer families of Morgan Park: “The Bibbs.” She had always looked forward to attending their largest event, the Morgan Park Roots Picnic. Mildred accepted Christ at an early age and for over 40 years, was an active member at the Beth Eden Baptist Church in Chicago, IL.

Mildred attended John D. Shoop Elementary School. Shortly after, Mildred entered into the work force as a highly respected sales representative selling hosiery and fashionable clothing door to door in the Morgan Park & Maple Park communities. Thereafter, Mildred worked at Kmart\S.S. Kresge as a retail clerk for over 30 years, where she was known for her kindness and exceptional customer service. She was the loving mother of Valerie Maynie-Flood & Bernard Maynie. Later Mildred met James Hamilton and his daughter Patricia Pulphus. James and Mildred would marry and of that union, 6 children were born. As time passed, Mildred became a mother/ grandmother figure to many in the neighborhood. She unofficially adopted the Gladney family. She loved them as if they were her own. Mildred was a doting homemaker. She took pleasure in sewing handmade dresses and clothing for her girls. Her cooking was a labor of love. So much that the family would look forward to her baked turkey, dressing and her delectable rolls and amazing peach cobbler. Mildred would beam with pride as she showed off her children and grandchildren at the Bibbs\Maynie annual Family Reunion. She enjoyed going to social clubs where she would dance and listen to her favorite R&B artists, like Sam Cooke and Nancy Wilson.

Mildred was preceded in death by her Grandparents: William & Willa Bee (Reeves) Bibbs. Her Parents: William & Bertha (Bibbs) Maynie.
